Wedding Planning Month-By-Month Timeline

Planning your wedding does not have to be overwhelming!

We have made a list month-by-month to help you stay on track to plan your dream wedding.

12+ months

  • Discus will your partner a date to set for your wedding day.

  • Choose a wedding day theme, style and colors.

  • Optional- hire a wedding planner or coordinator.

  • Most importantly you must set a budget.

  • Work on compiling a list of your final guest.

  • Make a social media page, hashtag, or website to announce your wedding!

  • Decide who will be in your wedding party.

  • An engagement party is not mandatory, but can be fun to have. Have that party!

  • Act fast.. Book your ceremony and reception locations. People book 1-2 years out.

  • Research officiants and book one that you feel is a great fit.

9-11 months

  • Mail or email your save-the-dates.

  • If your reception venue does not offer food, it's time to book your caterer.

  • Book your DJ, band , and other entertainment.

  • Secure your florist if using one.

  • Let's get ready to be picture perfect! Book your photographer & videographer.

6-8 months

  • Purchase your wedding gown, lengha, or garment that is part of your culture.

  • Finalize your menu.

  • Cake Time! Sample bakeries and book your favorite.

  • Choose transportation required for your wedding day! Book it now.

  • Listen to ceremony musicians and book your favorite one before it is to late.

  • Grab your bridesmaids, its time to choose their dresses!

  • Who doesn't love gifts? Register for your gifts.

  • Meet with makeup artist and hairstylist and book your favorite for your wedding day!

4-5 months

  • Plan and book your honeymoon.

  • Grab the guys and decide will they rent or buy their formalwear? Secure it.

  • Design your invitations and order them.

  • Find a jewelry store and buy those wedding bands!

  • Hire a calligrapher if you want to add a special touch to your handwritten items.

  • Wedding & Reception Design- reserve chair covers, tables, backdrops, centerpieces and/or other event decor you'll need.

3 months

  • Guest list finalization. Crunch time!

  • Assign ushers and others to help with your ceremony.

  • Time to mail your invitations. Good gesture add return stamp to get fast RSVP's.

  • Give your wedding party a gift by giving them their accessories that match their gown.

  • Plan and finalize details to the postwedding brunch.

  • Plan and finalize details to the rehearsal dinner.

1-2 months

  • Decide on your ceremony vows. Write them down and rehearse them.

  • Find the perfect gifts for parents, attendants, and other special guest.

  • Get in that gown, it's time for your final fitting!

  • Purchase welcome baskets for guest staying in hotels.

  • Party! Party! It's time for your bridal/groom shower and/or bachelor/bachelorette party. (lady sangeet)

1-2 weeks

  • Complete your Marriage license application by applying.

  • Double check by contacting guest that have not RSVP.

  • Prepare a wedding day emergency kit.

  • Assign day-of assignments for your wedding party and helpers.

  • Contact your ceremony and reception location to confirm times for your vendors arrival. Make sure your vendors will have the access they need to the locations.

  • Confirm your seating chart with your reception site coordinator.

  • Follow up and confirm all details with your vendors.
